MOCA Passes the American Alliance of Museums’ Core Documents Verification Program

MOCA Jacksonville, a cultural institute of the University of North Florida, has passed the American Alliance of Museums’ Core Documents Verification, an important milestone in its ongoing efforts to demonstrate excellence and meet standards and best practices.

Earning Core Documents Verification means the national professional organization for the museum industry has verified—through a thorough expert review—that the museum has an educational mission; and ethics, planning, emergency, and collections stewardship policies in place that reflect standard practices of professional museums. These elements were evaluated because they are deemed essential for every institution that identifies itself as a professional member of the museum field.

One reason MOCA undertook this outside review was to showcase that the museum has in place the policies and plans essential to good museum management and provides our staff and Board of Trustees the structure, ethical grounding, and accountability needed to make informed and consistent decisions for the good of our community and in support of our mission.

As MOCA approaches its 100th Anniversary in 2024, continuing the steps and securing accreditation will solidify the fact that the museum has a century of impact as the oldest art museum in the region and the second contemporary art museum to be established in the United States. Museums are spaces that bring communities together through enriching experiences, new perspectives, and opportunities to learn and connect. Great museums are a sign of a vibrant, forward thinking city with the ability to attract diverse professionals, families, and individuals who contribute to the local economy. MOCA Jacksonville believes in serving the Northeast Florida community by providing an inspiring, contemplative space for visitors to build community, find enjoyment, learn, and explore. It is our goal to create a point of activation in Downtown Jacksonville that drives visitation to the area from both our local and regional communities and the broader world by offering the highest quality exhibitions, programs, and experiences to our visitors.
